Today, we've rolled out the February 2026 Discover core update. This is an extensive update of our systems for surfacing Discover articles. According to our assessments, users of Discover have found the overall experience more useful and worthwhile after this update.
This update will enhance the experience in a few main ways:
Making sure users see more locally relevant content from the websites based in their country
Lowering the amount of sensational content and clickbait in Discover
Displaying more thorough, original pieces, and timely content from those websites that have local expertise of a certain area, as per our systems' comprehension of a site's content
Since a lot of the sites can be experts in very diverse fields, our systems are made to detect knowledge in a very precise manner. So, if a website is an expert in a whole bunch of different areas or just a single one, the chances of getting featured in Discover are the same. For instance, a local newspaper that has a separate gardening section may be considered an expert on gardening even though it covers other topics as well. Whereas, a movie review blog that happens to have one single article on gardening is probably not.
We'll keep on showing content that is personalized according to people's creators and sources preferences.
Just like with any core updates, this one can also cause changes in the level of Discover traffic. Some might get more traffic, others less; most of them should not change at all. Nowadays, we are bringing this update to US English users only, later on, we will extend it to all countries and languages.
